Can I cut on my granite countertops?

Today we’re going to talk about cutting on granite countertops! Can I cut on them? Is it going to chip? Is my countertop going to get damaged? Will my knife break?
These are questions that we frequently get asked, so we’re going to try and tackle them today. But the simple answer to cutting on granite countertops is both yes and no, and we’ll try to explain below.
Cutting on granite countertops
Granite countertops are natural, meaning they come straight from the earth. That means that they’re really strong and sturdy, so cutting on them will not damage them. You have more chances of damaging your knife, rather than the countertop itself.
But with that being said, that doesn’t mean that you should cut on them. If you want your countertops to last for a long time, you should refrain from cutting on them. Even though they’re tough, and you will most likely damage your knife, it’s best if you use a cutting board. Over time the countertop will get damaged too, if you keep cutting on them.
Pro tip: Always use a cutting board, avoid cutting on granite countertops!
